Brewery Insurance
What it is
Craft beer insurance offers protection for breweries from the brewing process to distribution and sales. There are a multitude of policies out there available for craft breweries, and your specific operation and needs will give us insights into which brewery insurance program is best for you. At Feltner Brew, we strive to ensure all aspects of your business are covered, and we look forward to growing your policy coverage alongside your operation.
Brewery Insurance
Who needs it
Craft brewers, brewpubs, taproom operators, and contract brewing partners all face similar exposures, handling heavy grain and finished product, operating boilers, mash tuns, and fermentation equipment, serving alcohol on-site, and shipping product to distributors and retailers. Standard commercial policies rarely cover everything at stake. If your operation involves brewing, packaging, serving, or distributing beer, you need coverage built specifically for the craft beer industry.

Recommended Insurance Policies
Our generally recommended craft brewery policies include:
- Commercial General Liability: Provides financial protection against claims of bodily injury or property damage for which your business could be held responsible.
- Workers Compensation: Covers employees’ medical costs and a portion of their lost wages in case of operational injury or workplace illness.
- Commercial Property: Provides coverage to physical property, equipment and supplies—and is essential in protecting your assets.
- Liquor Liability: Covers damages or injuries caused by accidents relating to alcohol.
- Equipment Breakdown: Covers equipment that is necessary to keep your business running. This includes boilers, mash tuns, fermentation and bright tanks—even your glycol chiller. It is worth noting that carriers with craft/manufacturing specific programs cover brewery equipment, typically for issues like tank collapse/rupture, tank leakage, power surges and more.
- Product Recall: Provides coverage when a bad batch of beer reaches the marketplace. Not all coverages are created equal here as craft/manufacturing specific policies will reimburse you for retail/wholesale values, not just the cost of ingredients to brew a new batch.
- Commercial Auto: Ensures vehicles used to travel to job sites or carry supplies are covered. Applies to property damage and bodily injury liability, collision and comprehensive coverage, uninsured/under-insured motorists and more.
- Commercial Umbrella: Extra liability coverage that sits on top of your primary commercial insurances.
Brewery Insurance
Why you need it
Being insurance people (not just craft beer nerds) means we look at things a little differently when we walk into a brewery. We see the forklift operator offloading a grain delivery and wonder if he’s been properly trained. We see those bags of grain being lifted improperly and know there’s a back injury and a worker’s comp claim about to take place. We wonder if you’re batch coding and what your product recall plan is… or if burns are being prevented by using proper safety equipment, including protective glasses, gloves, long sleeves and proper boots.
